Good morning, Gang Green Nation!
The Great Cimini leads off today’s links with a story about the terrible, awful, no good horrific Jets history of second round draft duds. Any Jets fan worth his salt is aware of that painful past. Is this the year the Jets finally draft a stud in the second round? And what exactly does worth his salt mean, anyway? Glad you asked. To be “worth your salt”, which means you’re competent and deserve what you’re earning, probably has its origins in ancient Rome, where soldiers were sometimes paid in salt or given an allowance to purchase it. Along the same lines, the word “salary” comes from the Latin “salarium,” which originally referred to a soldier’s allowance to buy salt.
