Jets general manager Joe Douglas spoke with the media today on a conference call. Here are some of the highlights.
On the offensive line...
A hint, perhaps, from Jets GM Joe Douglas about his intentions early in the NFL Draft?:
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) April 1, 2020
"I think there’s a real shortage of quality offensive linemen in the NFL, so we’re going to do our best to get as many quality ones as we can because you can never have too many."
I think offensive line is the top priority for the Jets. The issues on the offensive line are similar to those on the rest of the roster. The Jets have lacked both competent role players and game-changing young talent. It seems like the strategy is to add the role players through free agency. The game-changing young talent will need to come through the Draft. The line is the place to start.
Joe Douglas says the #Jets are “excited” about George Fant’s athleticism & believe he’s going to be an ideal fit in the offensive scheme. Said he’ll compete for a starting job.

Any statements made on April 1 could be a smokescreen, but if the Jets pick a tackle early in the Draft it seems like a competition will be in the works.
Douglas mentions position versatility with all of the OL signings. #nyj

Something Joe Douglas mentioned about each free-agent signing on the offensive line: Each guy can play multiple positions. #Jets

Joe Douglas sure talking about Brian Winters like he’ll be on the roster come training camp. #Jets

It seems like the Jets are still sorting out how their line will ultimately look. The Draft will play into that.
Generic GM speak...
“We want to create the best culture in sports … that involves bringing in the right people” #Jets GM Joe Douglas
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) April 1, 2020
Douglas says the #Jets' signings so far in free agency will give them "flexibility in the draft."
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) April 1, 2020
Douglas on FA plan: "Strategic and disciplined..." Goal is to build depth. He says "financial discipline" will help them build the team. #Jets

On injury rehab...
#Jets medical update:
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) April 1, 2020
CJ Mosley: Progressing well. “Everyone in org. is happy to have a healthy CJ Mosley.”
Quincy Enunwa: “We’re still going through the process.” Says #NYJ will have more information on that “hopefully soon”
On a Jamal Adams contract extension...
Douglas on Jamal Adams extension: “Nothing has really changed on our end.” since he spoke to reporters at the combine. #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) April 1, 2020
On the wide receiver position...
Joe Douglas says Vyncint Smith will have a “real opportunity” in 2020. Also talks highly about Josh Doctson (whom #Jets signed after the year) & Braxton Berrios.

Cue joke about swampland in Florida being for sale if you believe the Jets are satisified with their current group of wide receivers.
