Our readers’ and writers’ contributions to this site are a major reason why Gang Green Nation is the best Jets blog in the history of Jets blogs. No contribution, big or small, should go unnoticed. That’s why we’ll highlight some of the best comments and FanPosts on a weekly basis.
Without further ado, I bring to you, Gang Green Nation’s Highlight Reel for the past week:
Top Comments:
On the Jets’ offseason approach:
That’s an awesome stat... can help make up for deficiencies in his game elsewhere.
Between him and McGovern, it seems steady and smart is Joe D’s focus. Neither guy is a world beater but at least they won’t kill themselves (and drives) with dumb penalties. Time will tell if he picked the right players but man do I LOVE this approach. About the best thing I’ve heard lately is just how thoroughly un-Jet like the Jets FO has been this free agency. Stay un-Jet like Joe D!

On the nature of Jets fans:
Seriously
NY Jets fans 2019: “Mac sucks! Why’d he throw so much money at overpriced free agents??? Fire the bum!” NY Jets fans 2020: “Douglas sucks! Why isn’t he throwing money at the overpriced free agents??? Fire the bum!” The wheel goes round and round. Love what JD has done so far.

On our cornerbacks:
Desir & Austin
Desir was the 15th ranked corner in 2018 before playing hurt last year. Austin was the 29th ranked corner last year as a rookie coming off of a major injury. I’m good going into the draft with the o line as is & the secondary as is. We really need a WR & a edge. Before the draft!
-T Spicer
On the ample amount of cap space for 2021:
It’s obviously a ways out
But our 2021 cap space is likely to be in the 100 mill range. JD can basically have all of his own guys on the team by that point. Right now I’m optimistic that that’s a good thing

On Robby Anderson signing with the Panthers:
With Robby gone
That makes me want to trade for Trent Williams even more. Give up #79. Then at #11 take Lamb and then at #48 or #68 take the best available receiver. Lamb + another second or third round rookie > Robby. And it’s not close.
-Sam Darnold
On Robby Anderson’s Instagram message:
and still parts didn’t make sense
….”I hope this message is heartfelt the same way it’s written.” I hope it is heartfelt because it does come across somewhat disingenuous.
-ItPutTheLotionOnItsSkin
On the notion that the Jets sign a WR at pick 11:
We’ve been talking how OT is thin in the draft for years with the style change in college. WR is deeper than ever with 1st rd talent in the 2nd rd and even 3rd rd Now we have 4 bonafide top talented OT’s. Strong possibility 2 are there at 11 And everyone wan’t to draft a WR at 11? I don’t understand this logic even with Robby gone. Patience

On the Jets signing Breshad Perriman:
Another example of JD being a master of value. In the next year Perriman makes 6 mil (8 if he hits all his incentives), while Robby makes 12. The difference between Perriman and Robby is not 4-6 million dollars.
-Sammydeez
Pretty much tells you that Douglas ceiling was $8 million for Anderson.
Which is right at the top end of where it should have been. Perriman’s contract is right where it should be. Anderson is being paid like a top-25 receiver, which he is most definitely not. Perriman at $6 million is a much better value than a one-trick pony at $10-12 million.

On the Jets signing Patrick Onwuasor:
Williamson or no Williamson, I really like this move
That’s predicated on Peanut being a hybrid ILB/OLB. He doesn’t have the ideal size to rush but 8.5 sacks over the last 2 years looks like someone who could make an impact in a pass rush committee Even if he’s just an ILB for the Jets, he pushes Cashman down a peg and also is great injury insurance in case we’re without either Mosley or Williamson. All in all, very solid move Only missteps I’ve seen from JD are not shelling out the extra $$ for Conklin over Fant and not giving Robby $2m extra over Perriman, but the latter is not necessarily a total dropoff dollar-to-dollar
-1251 Ludlow
I believe he will be a great asset
But I don’t think we should get rid of Williamson. I think the duo of Mosley and Williamson will be a great tandem. I believe they could be the best inside linebacker duo in the league.

On the idea to trade Jamal Adams and the 11th pick for Chase Young and a 2nd Round Pick
Just....NO!
