According to Connor Hughes the New York Jets have agreed to terms to re-sign defensive back Bennett Jackson.

You might ask, who is Bennett Jackson? Glad you asked! Bennett Jackson is a 28 year old (will turn 29 in September), 6’ 0”, 192 pound defensive back out of Notre Dame. He was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft by the New York Giants. He never played a game with the Giants, and was out of the league for years before he secured a spot with the Baltimore Ravens briefly in 2019. After the Ravens eventually cut Jackson the Jets picked him up for two games, during which he was limited to special teams play.

In total Jackson has played just 27 defensive snaps and 55 special teams snaps in the NFL. At the age of 29 when the season starts, this is not a player with upside. Perhaps the Jets saw something in his special teams play that warranted a call back. In any event, this signing is not one that moves the needle. At best this is a move to staff the special teams; more likely this is just a camp body signing.
