There’s your new starting DB
Desir is a 29 year old journeyman who has had stints with four different NFL teams. He spent the last three years with the Indianapolis Colts. He put together a very strong 2018 in defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus’ zone heavy scheme. This led the Colts to give him a three year contract last offseason, but he was cut one year into the deal after an injury-plagued 2019 season.
For me the phrase, “Beggars can’t be choosers,” comes to mind. I don’t think Desir is that great, but I do think he is an upgrade over what the Jets currently have. I would imagine this addition is a sign Gregg Williams will heavily rely on zone coverage, and Desir at least understands how to play zone unlike most of the other corners on the roster.
Ian Rapoport provides some news on the financials.
The #Jets are giving CB Pierre Desir a 1-year contract worth up to $5.5M max, source said. He lands quickly after the surprising release. https://t.co/2Fv9zUWTmg

Following the theme of most of the offseason, I don’t think this is a superstar caliber addition, but it is a credible addition at an important position of need.
