According to multiple reports, the New York Jets have agreed to terms on a three year contract with former Carolina Panthers guard Greg Van Roten. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Greg Van Roten is a 30 year old, 6’ 3”, 305 pound guard originally signed by the Green Bay Packers in 2012. Van Roten spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Packers, playing in a total of 10 games with zero starts. He then was out of the league from 2014 through 2016, before signing with the Carolina Panthers in 2017. Van Roten became a starter with the Panthers in 2018, and started 27 games for them over the last two years. In his two years as a starter Van Roten was charged with just one penalty.
The signing of Van Roten may impact guard Brian Winters. If Van Roten is considered starting material by the Jets, it would free them up to cut Winters and save more than $7 million against the salary cap.
