According to multiple reports, the New York Jets are expected to re-sign cornerback Arthur Maulet to a one year contract after declining to extend him a tender offer as a restricted free agent. Terms of the expected deal are not available at this time.
Arthur Maulet, a 26 year old, 5’ 10”, 190 pound cornerback out of Memphis, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in 2017. He had limited playing time, with just six games played and one start, in two years with the Saints and the Indianapolis Colts before the Jets picked him up in 2019. Last year Maulet played 12 games for the Jets, with six starts. Maulet had 38 tackles, five tackles for loss, two passes defended, one fumble recovery and one touchdown in 2019.
This is a depth signing, presumably for minimal compensation. Maulet is the kind of player you bring back in hopes that you find somebody better to take his spot. If not, at least you have an inexpensive player familiar with your system to man the back of the cornerback depth chart.
