According to multiple reports, the New York Jets have agreed to terms with their third offensive lineman in two days. Joining Alex Lewis and George Fant on the 2020 Jets offensive line will be former Denver Broncos center Connor McGovern. The deal is reportedly for three years and $27 million.
McGovern is a soon to be 27 year old, 6’ 4”, 306 pound center out of the University of Missouri. He was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 144th overall selection in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL draft. McGovern started every game at center for the Denver Broncos last season and the last eight games of 2018. He was not charged with a single penalty last year.
McGovern was one of the better centers on the market and should provide the Jets with an upgrade over Ryan Kalil and Jonotthan Harrison, the starters in 2019. With this signing presumably three of the five starters on the 2020 Jets offensive line are set, with only the right side still in question. Chuma Edoga, a rookie who struggled when he was forced into a starter role last year, will get a shot at manning the right tackle position, and Brian Winters, the Jets long time starter, is still under contract at right guard.
