The NFL Scouting Combine is (sort of) underway in Indianapolis. The first group of players arrived for the annual event yesterday. The second group is arriving today. Preliminary activities are taking place, but the main focus of the Combine are the drills. Those will not start until later in the week.
Does the Combine really matter? That is the focus of today’s podcast. I used to think the Combine was totally irrelevant. I have changed my mind on this topic a bit through the years. Do I still think the Combine is extremely overhyped? Do I think people frequently misinterpret the results?
My answer is yes to both questions, but I do think there are areas where the Combine has its uses. If you avoid using it as the sole judge of player quality, it can be part of the evaluation with some useful information produced.
Thanks as always for listening.
