MNF: 49ers vs Bills Game Thread

San Francisco 49ers v Buffalo Bills

Monday Night Football, Week 13, Game 2. In the nightcap of tonight’s Monday Night Football doubleheader, the San Francisco 49ers host the Buffalo Bills.

The 5-6 San Francisco 49ers come into this game off a big win against division rival the Los Angeles Rams last week. That win ended a tough stretch for the 49ers in which they lost their prior three games. At 5-6 the 49ers are still hanging around the periphery of a wild card berth in the playoffs. It would probably take running the table, but it’s still possible, which is remarkable given the devastating number of injuries the 49ers have suffered this year. An unlikely playoff run would need to start tonight against the Bills. A loss tonight would all but end the 49ers faint playoff hopes.

The 8-3 Buffalo Bills come into this game in an unfamiliar position, atop the AFC East standings late in the year. The Bills have won four of their last five, but they are still just a half game ahead of the Miami Dolphins in the division. With a matchup against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers looming next week, the Bills need to win this game tonight against the 49ers.

A 49ers team playing to keep hope alive against a Bills team playing to stay atop their division. In late season football, all you can ask for is for the game to mean something for both teams. This game does. It’s the 49ers and the Bills on Monday Night Football.
