After the firing of Gregg Williams, the Jets will promote inside linebackers coach Frank Bush to interim defensive coordinator per Connor Hughes.

Bush is a veteran coach in the league. He was hired along with Adam Gase and Gregg Williams in 2019. Prior to his time with the Jets, Bush had actually worked under both Gase and Williams. He won a pair of championships as linebackers coach of the Denver Broncos in 1990s. He also has coordinator experience, a two year stint with the Texans in 2009 and 2010.

In a practical sense, it is difficult to see this move having much of an impact. The season is over. The Jets are terrible. Bush won’t have the time or the players needed to fix this defense. Of course, this move wasn’t really about Bush. It was about Williams, particularly after his play calling helped lose yesterday’s game for the Jets against the Raiders.
