The 6-8 Minnesota Vikings come into this game with their slim playoff hopes hanging by a thread. It will take a minor miracle for the Vikings to make the playoffs this year, but if they are to have any chance they need to win this game against the Saints. The Vikings have lost two straight after winning five out of six to get themselves back into the playoff picture. The once proud Vikings defense has collapsed, giving up 26 or more points in nine out of 14 contests this year. The Vikings will need to regain some of their former defensive prowess if they are to have any chance against the Saints.
The 10-4 New Orleans Saints were once favorites to emerge as the NFC champions, but two straight losses have damaged the Saints’ Super Bowl hopes. They need to get back on track today against a struggling Vikings team. Last week the return of Drew Brees after being out with broken ribs did not go as hoped for the Vikings. Brees was still visibly limited by his injuries, and he had a subpar performance by his lofty standards. If the Saints want to go far in the playoffs, Brees is going to have to get healthy and start playing like the Brees of old.
It’s the Vikings and the Saints on Christmas Day. Enjoy the game everybody.
