The Jets are placing defensive lineman Quinnen Williams on injured reserve.
Jets are placing DL Quinnen Williams on IR with a neck injury; he now will miss the final two games of the season, capping a year in which he emerged as one of the NFL’s top young DL.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 23, 2020
Over the last few weeks Williams started to break out. After a relatively quiet first year and a half in the league, he started flashing consistently around the midway point of the season posting 5 sacks in his last 7 games. While Williams ultimately fell short of the Pro Bowl, he made Jets fans feel confident about his future as a disruptive force on the defensive line.
The move to IR ends Williams season as players must remain there for at least three weeks. There are only two weeks left in the season.
If nothing else, Quinnen’s recent progress provides hope there are at least a few foundational pieces on the roster as the Jets look to emerge from a bad season (and decade). It will take young talent emerging the way he has through the second half of 2020.
