Jets vs. Rams: Five Bold Predictions

NFL: New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Every time you think it can’t get any worse in 2020 for the Jets, you are reminded that you are thinking of the 2020 Jets, who might as well be listed on the Wikipedia entry for dysfunctional organizations. I have to adjust my mindset, despite what the disclaimer might tell you.

Scoring over 10 points is now a bold prediction for the Jets, who have failed to do so in over half their games.

Giving up fewer than 20 points is also a bold prediction, as they’ve failed to do so in all but one game (18.)

Gaining over 300 yards is a bold prediction, the Jets are the only team in the NFL to average fewer than 300 yards per game (269.8.)

Passing for over 200 yards in a game is a bold prediction, as the Jets average a pathetic 166.1 yards per game.

Giving up under 275 passing yards per game is a bold prediction, as the Jets are one of two teams to give up more per game (Seattle.)

At this point, the Jets even playing a competitive game is a bold prediction. I can’t say I’ve seen a team this bad before. Those 0-16 Lions and Browns come close, but they still seemed to have more talent. And neither of those teams had the trump card, Adam Gase. So here we go again, hoping against hope that the Jets at least look okay losing, while throwing bold predictions to the wind:

Disclaimer: Bold Predictions are not realistic expectations for the game, but rather something that is unlikely to happen, yet possible. These predictions are pro-Jets, yet stretch the boundaries of probability. Claiming that the Jets score 20 points is not a Bold Prediction, nor is claiming that the Jets score 700 points. These predictions must be within the bounds of possibility, but also highly improbable. As always, the final score prediction remains a realistic guess at the result of the game and does not relate to the Bold Predictions.

Here are my five bold predictions for today’s game:

  • The Jets score more than 10 points.
  • The Jets give up fewer than 20 points.
  • The Jets gain over 300 yards.
  • The Jets pass for over 200 yards.
  • The Jets give up fewer than 275 passing yards.

Final Score: Jets 17, Rams 31
