The Jets have placed edge rusher Jordan Jenkins on injured reserve.
We've placed LB Jordan Jenkins and S Saquan Hampton on IR.— New York Jets (@nyjets) December 16, 2020
This year a player must remain on injured reserve for at least three weeks. With only three weeks left in the season, this means Jenkins’ 2020 is finished.
Jenkins bet on himself taking a one year, $5 million contract this offseason from the Jets. It hasn’t worked out. After posting 8 sacks a season ago, Jenkins only has 2 this year to go with some pedestrian pressure rates. Although he has remained a quality edge setter against the run, it is difficult to imagine him getting a big payday in free agency.
Whether the Jets will have interest in bringing him back is an open question. Part of the equation is currently unknown. A new coaching staff will likely be coming in, and it isn’t clear what they will think of Jenkins.
Saquan Hampton is also being placed on IR.
