The Jets lost to the Seahawks yesterday. After Jets losses we give out an anti-game ball. (This season you could simply say we give out an anti-game ball after Jets games.)
The candidates for the honor after the 40-3 loss were numerous. This was such a thorough defeat that we could easily justify another special anti-game ball for the entire team. We have given out plenty of those this year, though.
Breshad Perriman, Bryce Hall, Frank Gore, and many others were legitimate anti-game ball candidates this week. I am going to go with kicker Sergio Castillo, however.
Castillo missed three field goals in the second quarter of yesterday’s loss. At 37, 41, and 43 yards all three were makeable. These kicks didn’t cost the Jets the game. They would have lost anyway. They at least could have kept the team within shouting distance through the first half. Instead this was over by halftime.
The Jets’ inability to find a competent kicker the last two years has been difficult to explain. Teams constantly find decent kickers off the street. The Jets have done it in the past. There is no excuse for their failure to do so now.
Castillo gets my anti-game ball. Who gets yours?
