Ahead of tonight’s game against the New England Patriots, the New York Jets have activated rookie cornerback Bryce Hall to the active roster, signed quarterback Mike White from the practice squad to the active roster and placed tight end Trevon Wesco on the injured reserve list. The team has also elevated tight end Ross Travis and defensive lineman Tanzel Smart from the practice squad to the active roster.
Bryce Hall is a 23 year old, 6’ 1”, 200 pound rookie cornerback drafted by the Jets with the 158th pick in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL draft. Hall was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list at the beginning of the season, and designated to return to practice Oct. 21. Hall was a star cornerback for the University of Virginia before suffering a severe ankle injury after six games in his senior year. In 2018 Hall led the nation with 24 passes defended and was named second team All-American and first team All-ACC.
Mike White started the season on the practice squad, was signed to the active roster for the first three games and was released October 1. He was re-signed to the practice squad on October 5. Hall was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster in Weeks 5 and 6, then cut and again re-signed to the practice squad. White will serve as Joe Flacco’s primary backup tonight.
Ross Travis is a 27 year old, 6’ 6”, 250 pound tight end. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jets claimed Travis after he was waived by the Indianapolis Colts last December. In 24 NFL games Travis has a total of 14 receptions for 142 yards.
Tanzel Smart is a 26 year old, 6’ 1”, 295 pound defensive lineman. He was originally picked in the 6th round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Smart has bounced around the league, spending time with the Rams from 2017 - 2019, the Buffalo Bills training camp in 2020, the Cleveland Browns practice squad in 2020, and now the Jets. In 31 NFL games Smart has a total of 21 tackles, one pass defended and one quarterback hit in 31 games.
