The 7-3 Seattle Seahawks come into this game off a big win against division rival the Arizona Cardinals last week. That win ended a tough stretch for the Seahawks in which they lost three of four games. With the Eagles, the Giants, the Jets and the Football Team the next four Seahawks opponents, chances look good for a long Seattle winning steak which should put them in the playoffs. A win tonight against the Eagles will give the Seahawks a one game lead in the division over the Los Angeles Rams and will put them just a game back of the New Orleans Saints for the top seed in the NFC.
The 3-6-1 Philadelphia Eagles come into this game losers of two straight. At three games under .500, and with the starting quarterback playing so poorly that he may be benched soon, the Eagles should not be playoff contenders. However, the Eagles have the good fortune of playing in perhaps the worst division ever in NFL history, so a win tonight over the Seahawks would vault them into first place in the NFC East. Wins will likely be scarce for the Eagles in the near future, as tonight starts a three game stretch featuring the Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, and the Green Bay Packers, possibly the three best teams in the NFC. If the Eagles lose to the Seahawks, it isn’t clear when they would have a decent chance for another victory, at least until they finish up the season with two games against NFC East rivals.
This game is a contest between two playoff contenders, but in no way should this be considered a close matchup. An Eagles win tonight would be a major upset. Nonetheless, stranger things have happened. It’s the Eagles and the Seahawks in a NFC showdown on Monday Night Football.
