Another week, another loss. Not much to give thanks for in this season, but we do have a few stickers to give this week. Here we go:
Bronze Star: Denzel Mims (3 catches for 71 yards)
Mims has shown himself to be a talented player with a lot of room for growth this year. In addition to leading the Jets in receiving with 71 yards, he drew multiple penalties on deep throws that could have helped the Jets mount the comeback we all knew they were incapable of against the Chargers. Mims’ play has been very encouraging over the last few weeks, and when combined with some of the other young players stepping up, gives fans some optimism in a nightmarish season.
Silver Star: Quinnen Williams (3 tackles, 0.5 sacks)
Williams didn’t light up the scoreboard, but he was constantly on the other side of the line generating pressure and forcing plays away from him. While players like Marcus Maye had flashier plays, this was a game in which the best Jets didn’t appear in most of the flash plays. Williams quietly disrupted the game more than any Jet on defense.
Gold Star: Mekhi Becton
Becton may be the best player on the Jets roster already. Think of all of the things working against Becton in his rookie season. There’s a compacted offseason due to COVID-19. He has dealt with multiple injuries. He plays on a team with no wins 11 weeks into the season. He is a raw rookie project, expected to struggle early and develop due to his physical traits. Throw all of that out the window because he has dominated every game he plays. He smothered Bosa and opened up running lanes whenever the Jets ran behind him, which wasn’t often enough. Becton gives Jets fans everywhere hope for the future.
So there you have it, ten weeks in and the table stands:
Quinnen Williams 11 points (3 gold, 1 silver)
Jamison Crowder 8 points (2 gold, 1 silver)
Mekhi Becton 6 points (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)
Marcus Maye 6 points (2 gold)
No One 6 points (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)
John Franklin-Myers 4 points (2 silver)
Breshad Perriman 3 points (1 gold)
Sam Ficken 3 points (1 silver, 1 bronze)
Neville Hewitt 3 points (1 silver, 1 bronze)
