Mike Garofalo reports the Jets will release cornerback Pierre Desir.
#Jets are releasing CB Pierre Desir, source says. He goes on waivers.

The Jets signed Desir to a one year contract in the offseason hoping he could recapture his 2018 form when he was the top corner on a Colts team that made the Divisional round of the postseason. The team had a glaring need at cornerback.
To say this signing did not work out would be an understatement. Desir’s play was consistently terrible from the Week 1 opener against Buffalo going forward. He showed little ability or willingness to challenge opposing receivers. His coverages made him look like Trumaine Johnson or late career Darrelle Revis.
This move frankly seemed overdue. Cutting Desir won’t fix the Jets’ problems at cornerback, but it will open up a roster spot for somebody younger who at least might have some upside. It also opens up a spot for rookie Bryce Hall to get on the field and gain experience.
In the offseason I thought a one year contract on Desir was a reasonable gamble. There aren’t many things I will ever be more mistaken about than that.
