Rumor: Jets might be shopping Quinnen Williams

NFL: Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets are shopping Quinnen Williams in trade talks ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

The standard Mehta disclaimer applies.

Williams was drafted third overall last year, but a different general manager made that pick. He currently has 3 sacks and 5 tackles for a loss in a second season I would term as good but not great.

My first instinct would be to say that the Jets should not give up on Williams unless they get an enormous package in return. He has shown signs of progress this year and still has room to grow.

Still the Jets see him every day and thus have better tools that their disposal to accurately gauge his true potential. If they have come to the conclusion that Williams will never reach star level performance, the smart thing to do might be to deal him now before the rest of the NFL figures that out and his value remains relatively high.

Finally some other Jets writers have disputed this rumor.

We will have to see what happens.
