The New York Jets have placed linebacker Frankie Luvu on the injured reserve list with a groin injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. Luvu will be eligible to return to the active roster, if healthy, after the Jets’ bye week.
Luvu, who had his best year with the Jets as a rookie in 2018, has largely disappeared from the defensive rotation this year. In four out of six games Luvu has played less than five defensive snaps. With his role in the defense already diminished, this might spell the end of the line for Luvu as a Jet.
Together with the recent trade of Steve McLendon, the Jets have opened up two spots on the 53 man roster. Those spots are likely to filled by players activated off of the injured reserve list. Denzel Mims, Jabari Zuniga, Cameron Clark, and Arthur Maulet are practicing with the team and are likely to return to the active roster soon. In addition, Patrick Onwuasor is eligible to return to practice and may also be activated before too long.
