NY Jets Helmet Stickers: Week 5

Syndication: The Record Chris Pedota, NorthJersey.com via Imagn Content Services, LLC

Well, the Jets are back to playing noncompetitive football now that we don’t get to play a 3rd string quarterback on a winless team. There were some solid performances this week, however, so at least my job is a little easier. So let’s assign some helmet stickers for another dismal week:

Bronze Star: Neville Hewitt (10 tackles, 1 PD)

Hewitt is not going to be showing up on these types of lists often, but credit to him for playing a pretty good game. He racked up a lot of tackles short of the sticks, and contributed an important TFL and caused the deflection that lead to Avery Williamson’s easy interception.

Silver Star: John Franklin-Myers (4 tackles, 1 sack)

JFM finally makes the list after skirting around it for most of the season. He has been one of the few bright spots and would likely have earned several stickers by this point if he just got more playing time. He registered 4 tackles in this game, but had an impressive TFL along with the Jets’ only sack on the day. There’s a lot to like with Franklin-Myers and Jets fans have to hope that he will develop into a solid starter in years to come.

Gold Star: Jamison Crowder (8 catches for 116 yards, 1 TD)

With Becton sidelined, Mosley on the opt out list, and Bell off the roster, Crowder is the only legitimate NFL player on the field for the Jets these days. It is glaringly obvious that he is in a different league than the players around him, as he posted 8 catches and 116 yards on just 10 targets. He scored the Jets only touchdown and accounted for about 60% of the Jets receiving yards while the next closest player posted only 2 receptions for only 12% of their yardage. I realize he is due over $11M in salary next year, but I can’t see how you could remove him from the roster as he’s proving to be the only credible target for any quarterback unfortunate enough to suit up in a Jets uniform.

So there you have it, Five weeks in and the table stands:

Jamison Crowder 8 points (2 gold, 1 silver)

Mekhi Becton 3 points (1 silver, 1 bronze)

Sam Ficken 3 points (1 silver, 1 bronze)

No One (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)

Quinnen Williams 3 points (1 gold)

Marcus Maye 3 points (1 gold)

John Franklin-Myers 2 points (1 silver)

Neville Hewitt 1 point (1 bronze)

Bless Austin 1 point (1 bronze)
