Rumor: Jets Trying to Trade Le’Veon Bell

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets are actively looking to trade running back Le’Veon Bell.

The typical disclaimers apply for a Mehta rumor.

That said, this wouldn’t be a major surprise. Bell liked social media posts on Sunday night which criticized the Jets’ game plan in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

On Monday Brian Costello of the New York Post who has been tight with Adam Gase since the head coach was hired called for the Jets to get rid of Bell.

It isn’t hard to imagine Gase having something to do with that particular article.

As we know, Gase never wanted to sign Bell and has refused to try and tailor his system to maximize Bell’s effectiveness.

Trading Bell would be no easy task given his salary and his lack of production over the last few years. The Jets would likely have to eat a lot of the salary and take a late round pick. It would likely be a move made simply for the sake of getting Bell off the team.

In the meantime we have another distraction for this team, and another big name player Adam Gase cannot coexist with. At this point you have to wonder how much embarrassment Christopher Johnson can take before he’s ready to make a coaching change.
