The New York Jets have made a flurry of roster moves leading up to tonight’s game against the Denver Broncos.

The Jets have released quarterback Mike White and cornerback Nate Hairston. The release of White presumably means Joe Flacco will be the primary backup for Sam Darnold tonight and going forward this season.

In addition, the Jets have activated wide receiver Jeff Smith off the injured reserve list, signed defensive back Javelin Guidry to the active roster and elevated wide receiver Lawrence Cager and defensive back Lamar Jackson from the practice squad.

The activation of Smith, along with Jamison Crowder likely being available for tonight’s game, gives the Jets and Sam Darnold a much needed upgrade at wide receiver. Smith and Crowder represent two of their top five receivers going into the season. The anticipated return of Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims in a week or two will finally get the Jets close to full strength at wide receiver, a development Sam Darnold is no doubt looking forward to.
