Should the Super Bowl be scheduled when fans won’t have to work the next day?

A petition asking the NFL to move the Super Bowl to Saturday now has over 70,000 signatures.

The current Sunday evening schedule leaves the big game on a school/work night. That doesn’t prevent millions from calling in sick the next day.

Each week SB Nation sends out a survey to NFL fans asking them their opinions. It is called FanPulse. Fans were asked their views about the date of the Super Bowl. Would it be better to have the game on a Saturday or to have the Monday after the big game off?

I get the sense we might end up heading in this direction at some point in the next few years. There has been talk about the league expanding its schedule by perhaps adding a 17th regular season game for each team along with an additional bye.

These two additional weeks would happen to push the Super Bowl back to President’s Day weekend. Many fans would have that Monday off. February also happens to be a very slow time in the American sports calendar, one the NFL could fill.
