Jets podcast: Looking at potential cap cuts

NFL: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the new league year, the Jets will have several important decisions to make. Among these decisions are whether to keep or cut a handful of players.

The Jets have less projected salary cap space than they did a year ago and roughly as many needs. Jettisoning a few contracts can increase the team’s spending power.

On today’s podcast we examine potential Jets cap cuts. Some of the cuts will be fairly obvious. Trumaine Johnson comes to mind (in spite of the small cap savings the cut will provide). Others aren’t as clear. With a couple of exceptions, the candidates are mainly a collection of ill-advised Mike Maccagnan contracts. Some are big money. Others are more moderate overpays. The good news is escaping these deals could give the Jets some extra money this offseason.
