It’s Opening Day for the 2019 New York Jets and the optimism is rising for this team. Today the Jets host the Buffalo Bills in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The theme for the Jets is out with the old, in with the new.
The Jets have a new head coach, a new coaching staff, a new front office, and a new team president. On the field there are huge changes as well. On offense the Jets first and second string running backs, backup quarterback, slot receiver, center, left guard and every tight end on the active roster are all making their Jets debuts. On defense we will see a new starting defensive lineman, a new starting edge rusher, two new starting inside linebackers, and two new starting cornerbacks. On special teams it’s more of the same, with new starters at kicker, kick returner and punt returner. This is change on a massive scale, and with various players not appearing or playing very little for the Jets in pre-season, we don’t quite know yet how it will all fit together. Today we begin to find out.
The Jets will face a formidable Bills defense and a revamped Bills offense today in what promises to be a long series of showdowns between fellow 2018 first round quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Josh Allen. Which of these two young quarterbacks, if either, ends up becoming an upper echelon NFL quarterback will go a long way towards determining these two teams’ chances of emerging as the team to beat in the AFC East in the fast approaching post-Brady era.
