Thursday Night Football, Week 3. Tonight the Tennessee Titans travel south to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC South grudge match.
The Titans have had the Jaguars’ number of late, having won four straight over Jacksonville and holding the Jaguars to 10.3 points per game in that span. The Jaguars have been held under 100 yards rushing in each of those four games. The Titans have had no such problems running the ball against the Jaguars; Derrick Henry rushed for a monstrous 238 yards and four touchdowns the last time these teams met.
The Jaguars have had all kinds of problems at home recently. They have a 3-6 home record since the start of the 2018-19 season, second worst home record in the AFC during that time (only the Jets at 2-8 are worse).
The Titans feature a conservative game plan with a run heavy offense, depending on the defense and the running game to keep them in most games. Disappointing former first round pick Marcus Mariota and his limitations as a passer have forced the Titans to skew conservative. It makes for a somewhat uninteresting brand of offensive football. The Jaguars, with rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew replacing injured starter Nick Foles, also tend to be run heavy and defense oriented. A shootout seems rather unlikely tonight.
It’s the Titans and the Jaguars in an AFC South divisional showdown unlikely to produce much in the way of offensive fireworks. If you enjoy a good old fashioned grind it out defensive struggle, this game might be right up your ally.
Enjoy the game everybody.
