5 Reasons Why the Jets don't Suck

I get tired of reading all the garbage about the Jets stinking every time there is a loss. Anti game balls, the coach sucks, the GM is terrible because he traded a 6th rounder. All that crap is negativity that I don't want to soak up the second I'm trying to get over a loss from my beloved Jets. Only one team can win, and you can't win em all. Here's a couple of things that I'm still excited about.

  1. Kickin Sam Ficken. The Jets gave him 1 chance out of 3 possible red zone attempts to score, and he put it through the uprights. He also booted his kickoffs through the end zone without issue. I'm optimistic to see this guy go 3 for 3 and we no longer talk about "the kicker situation".
  2. Hines Ward named offensive assistant coach. This is a below the radar move, but I really liked Hines Ward as a player, and I think him working with the wideout group in particular will pay dividends. I'm thinking about running games in the future with receivers blocking 10 yards down the field as a regular occurrence.
  3. Nate Hairston. Temple has produced a lot of solid defensive players, and Nate Hairston is in my opinion looking like a solid get by Joe Douglas. He was only signed August 28th, but played 56 of 59 total snaps in Sunday's loss. Not only that but he played well. I think he's a starter, and a legitimate starter with game time and practice reps. The Jets really only surrendered 2 plays on Sunday in the 2 Odell Beckham splash plays and Hairston was a big part of that. Not bad for a 6th round pick.
  4. New York Jets Defense. Since I mentioned it above, I'm more than happy with this defense. Considering the Jets defense came on the field regularly with the Browns starting around midfield, the Jets surrendered 2 touchdowns, and one of them was a boneheaded free release 89 yard TD to ODB where he was not touched. This defense has produced 5 turnovers in it's first 2 games and kept the points relatively low. I'm proud of the Jets D, and look forward to Quinnen Williams return, Terrell Basham improvement, and Leonard Williams arrival as what we expected.
  5. Luke Falk. Yeah, I said it. Luke "F'n" Falk. He's getting a ton of negatives from the fan base, but I've been on the Falk mobile since 2 years ago when he was at Washington State. He's accurate, throws with touch, and scans the entire field quickly. He doesn't have elite arm strength but can throw it 50 yards off his back foot when needed. I had him as the #4 QB I wanted behind Baker, Darnold, and Mason Rudulph because all of them were the most consistent in college football with accuracy, touch, and quick releases on short and intermediate routes. Falk also completed 20 of 25 passes for 200 yards in basically 3 quarters of work. To put it in context the other QB that started in front of him passed for 3 yards on 3 completions in a little over a quarter. To put it in better context, he played better than Sam Darnold did in week 1. With a week of practice, I like Falk to shock the world this Sunday. I'm not predicting a Jets win, but I am predicting a high TD:turnover ratio, and high completion percentage which jives well with Bell's pass catching abilities.

There you have it. For all of you out here complaining the season is over after week two, these are five of the probably dozen reasons I can give you that the Jets are still my team, worth watching every week, and don't suck as a franchise.
