Jets vs Browns Game Thread

New York Jets v Cleveland Browns

It’s Monday Night Football and the New York Jets are hosting the Cleveland Browns in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It’s been an eventful week at One Jets Drive.

Just since last week the Jets have a new starting quarterback, a new kicker, a new starting inside linebacker and a new outside wide receiver. The injury bug has hit the Jets hard and early this year. Sam Darnold is out with, of all things, mono and the (hopefully short-lived) Trevor Siemian era is upon us. Star inside linebacker C.J. Mosley has a groin injury and rookie Blake Cashman gets the call. That can’t be good. Quincy Enunwa is lost for the year, and maybe forever, with a neck injury, and Demaryius Thomas is acquired via trade with the Patriots, of all teams. Weird. Sam Ficken is the flavor of the week at kicker; we’ll see if he can hold the position longer than his multiple predecessors this year. Le’Veon Bell has a banged up shoulder but should play. First round draft pick Quinnen Williams is out with an ankle injury. Things are looking pretty grim for this game against the Browns.

A silver lining in all this is that the Browns looked completely lost in a 43-13 blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans last week to open the season. The offensive line was a sieve, Baker Mayfield was not good under pressure all night, the Browns racked up 180+ penalty yards on 18 penalties, and they turned the ball over three times. That’s the kind of unraveling performance the Jets need from the Browns tonight if the Jets are to avoid a winless start through the first two games of the 2019 season.
