Jets Cut Dortch, Middleton, McClellan and Bertolet

Earlier today the New York Jets claimed four players off waivers. Now the other shoe has dropped. In order to make room for the four players the Jets claimed off waivers (wide receiver Braxton Berrios, defensive end John Franklin-Myers, defensive back Bennett Jackson and kicker Kaare Vedvik), the Jets have cut wide receiver Greg Dortch, linebacker Albert McClellan, safety Doug Middleton and kicker Taylor Bertolet.

Of the players cut, Greg Dortch may be the biggest surprise. Dortch seemingly impressed the Jets coaches with his punt return abilities during training camp and in pre-season action, but apparently it was not enough to stay on once Braxton Berrios was brought aboard.

These moves complete the Jets 53 man roster for the time being. Today’s waiver claims across the league required multiple new players to be cut today, so we may see more waiver claims tomorrow once today’s cuts go through waivers.
