Jets starters played one series: Snap totals from the preseason opener

NFL: Preseason-New York Jets at New York Giants Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The first preseason game is in the books for the Jets.

The starters tend to play sparingly in the opener, and that was the case for the Jets on both sides of the ball Thursday night against the Giants. Most of the key players saw single digit snaps.

Here are the totals for the offense.

Here they are for the defense.

These are totals provided by the NFL.

On the offensive side, Greg Dortch’s relatively large workload seemed noticeable to me. Dortch is one of those guys who I think has a realistic path to making the team but isn’t a lock. Generally speaking, I think he made the most of his time.

The same can’t be said for the reserve members of the defensive backfield. Many of them got extensive playing time, but few of those with a chance of making the team took advantage of the opportunity presented to them.
