Jets vs Giants Game Thread

Week 1 of the NFL pre-season has the New York Jets coming off an eventful and exciting off season. There is a new head coach and coaching staff, a new general manager and front office staff, several new star players, and a quarterback seemingly primed to take the proverbial second year leap. It’s been a while since Jets fans had this much to get excited about. Tonight we’ll begin the long journey towards finding out if the excitement is justified.

The Jets will be facing the Giants in the pre-season opener this year, a change in the usual third pre-season game grudge match. Years in which the Jets and Giants face off in the regular season, like 2019, usually mean no third pre-season game matchup for these two teams.

The starters for both squads will barely play tonight, and by the second half we’ll be deep into players we’ll never see in regular season action. There is little in the way of game planning, the play calling tends to be fairly plain vanilla stuff, and with backups squaring off against backups much of the night, the results will tell us little about how the season is likely to unfold. Still, it’s real-ish football, finally.

It’s the Jets and the Giants opening their respective campaigns to re-establish respectability. Leave your comments in the section cleverly marked “comments” below. Enjoy the game everybody.
