The Jets made a trade on Monday to acquire an offensive lineman. The team is sending a conditional seventh round pick to Baltimore for Ravens guard Alex Lewis. Lewis had fallen out of favor in Baltimore and was likely to be released had the Ravens been unable to find a trading partner.
The stakes feel much lower with this move than they did with the signing of Ryan Kalil. Kalil was a starter and likely an appreciable upgrade at center, while Lewis projects as a depth player. I’m not all that convinced anybody would even care about this move if it occurred deeper into Joe Douglas’ tenure.
