Jets vs Eagles Game Thread

NFL: New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Week 4 of the NFL pre-season has the New York Jets hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The starters for both teams should be watching this game from the bench as the scrubs take over. This is the pre-season game that bears the least resemblance to real NFL action. Most of the players seeing extensive playing time will not be on an NFL roster in two days. The score is irrelevant and the play tends to be sloppy and penalty filled. This is the worst the NFL has to offer, but it still means a lot to the players battling to secure a coveted spot on the 53 man roster or the practice squad of an NFL team. One thing to pay attention to may be the order in which the players enter the game. The earlier a player enters the more likely that player will make the team. Players who don’t enter until the second half probably won’t be making the team.

One other item of note: old friend Josh McCown might see extensive action in this game. He was just signed recently to be the Eagles’ backup quarterback, and he saw a lot of action last week. It is possible the Eagles will want to get him as much action as possible in this one to get him up to speed before he takes his place on the bench behind Carson Wentz. You know it’s a tough game to get excited about when one of the top items of interest is whether or not Josh McCown sees extensive action.

It’s the Jets and the Eagles in the annual Scrub Bowl, with everything on the line for the players who see action, and almost nothing on the line for the teams involved. If you make it all the way through this game give yourself a pat on the back; you’re a true diehard Jets fan. Leave your comments in the section cleverly marked “comments” below. Enjoy the game everybody.
