In the Jets’ second pre-season game of 2019, on a hot August night in Atlanta, Georgia, the New York Jets beat the Atlanta Falcons, 22 - 10.

For the second straight week the Jets first string offense opened with a crisp, dominant drive, going 66 yards in 7 plays for a touchdown. Sam Darnold looked accurate and in control, and Ty Montgomery gained yards in chunks. Unfortunately Taylor Bertolet missed the extra point. That was the first of two missed extra points missed by Bertolet, as the Jets’ kicking woes continue.

The first team offense gave way to substitutes after one quarter, and the backups struggled through two quarters behind erratic performances by Trevor Siemian and Davis Webb. Fourth string quarterback Luke Falk looked better than both, as he led a late touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

The Jets first string defense did a nice job, holding the Falcons scoreless in the first quarter. The backups gave up 10 points in the second quarter before shutting the Falcons out in the second half. The defensive backups wrapped up the game with a pick six late in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

With the win the Jets pre-season record for 2019 goes to 1 - 1. That record of course is meaningless. Nobody will remember or care about pre-season results once the regular season is under way.

I’ll be around for a more in depth recap of tonight’s game a bit later this evening. In the meantime leave your comments on the game below.
