In a mild surprise Jets cornerback Brian Poole started training camp on the NFI (Non-Football Injury) list.
It was not clear exactly what ailment he had. Sometimes a player gets a little banged up before the start of training camp and quickly returns. Other times this is a sign of a more serious injury. Poole’s addition to the NFI list came unexpectedly so we were left to wonder.
Fortunately for the Jets, it seems to be the former.
Gase said it was a conditioning issue with CB Brian Poole, who is on the non-football injury list. They expect him back tomorrow. #Jets

When everybody is healthy, the group of corners the Jets put on the field is less than distinguished. Poole’s absence from today’s practice offered a look at the depth.
Arthur Maulet getting some early run with the starting D as the nickel CB with Brian Poole sidelined. Maulet has previously been with Saints and Colts.

I think we will see the Jets explore external options to address the cornerback position. What choice does a team have when it is one snap from Arthur Maulet playing in a starting role?
Poole’s imminent return is at least a positive development on this front.
