Bilal Powell working out for the Jets on Friday

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at New York Jets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent running back Bilal Powell is working out for the Jets today according to a report from Brian Costello.

Powell has reportedly been cleared to continue his football career after his 2018 season ended due to that neck injury.

It seems to me like a reunion between the Jets and Powell makes too much sense to not happen. Although he is now on the wrong side of 30, Powell has continued to be a productive player when he has been on the field. His low career workload has likely extended his career.

The Jets could also use some depth behind Le’Veon Bell. Powell would be a nice fit there.

I would view the signing as an insurance move. If younger guys like Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon performed well in training camp and the preseason, they could still knock Powell off the roster. But this addition would force them to earn their spots.
