The Jets have begun the process of reaching out to potential general manager candidates to set up interviews. Albert Breer says two such candidates have accepted the requests and will meet with the team.
The Jets’ GM search will rev up this week. I’m told it remains unclear if Minnesota exec George Paton will accept the interview, but both Chicago’s Champ Kelly and Seattle’s Scott Fitterer are going to meet with the Jets. Fitterer’s interview is set for Thursday and Friday in New Jersey.
Fitterer is Seattle’s Co-Director of Player Personnel, a role he shares with Trent Kircher, who was a candidate the last time the Jets had a general manager opening. He has held the job since 2015. Prior to that he held jobs as Director of College Scouting and Area Scout in Seattle. He has been with the Seahawks since 2001.
Kelly is the Assistant Director of Player Personnel in Chicago. He previously had worked as Director of Pro Scouting in Chicago and spent eight years in Denver’s front office prior to working for the Bears.
Breer also notes Philadelphia’s Joe Douglas remains the favorite to land the job at this time.
