Lance Newmark and Champ Kelly join Joe Douglas as Jets general manager candidates

NFL: Pro Bowl Skills Challenge Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Today the big name associated with the Jets’ general manager search was Eagles executive Joe Douglas. Champ Kelly and Lance Newmark, currently working in the personnel departments of the Bears and Lions respectively, are also potential candidates for the job according to Ian Rapoport.

It is unlikely that Gase will remain the general manager for long. Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly and Lions director of player personnel Lance Newmark are potential replacements for Maccagnan given their ties to Gase. The first-year Jets coach will be heavily involved in hiring the next GM, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Kelly previously spent time in the Denver organization before moving to Chicago. Newmark has spent over two decades in the Lions’ front office.

It is unclear how many candidates there will ultimately be in this search. No known interviews have been scheduled.
