Since the Jets made such a big move today I’ll move up and post tomorrow’s podcast early.
Mike Maccagnan is now the former general manager of the Jets. The Jets made the surprising announcement on Wednesday that they are parting ways with their general manager.
It was a move that was overdue, but it also was a move that leaves me with more questions than answers. The timing of the move is very odd since the Jets just let a general manager run an important offseason before firing him. The decision to hand the keys to the organization over to Adam Gase also seems like a curious decision to me. A number of the explanations the team’s CEO offered on Wednesday make it unclear whether he was doing his job during the season.
I think the move to get rid of Maccagnan was the right one, but the team’s handling of everything leaves me with major questions about whether they can get things right going forward. I share these concerns today.
