Jets will open their 2019 preseason schedule against the Giants

NFL: New York Giants at New York Jets Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets’ preseason schedule for 2019 was partially released today. Official dates and times are still to come, but we found out the four opponents and the order of the game.

Unlike most seasons the Jets and Giants will not meet in the third preseason game. They will instead play in the first week of the preseason. A few reports have suggested this change was made since the teams will face each other in the regular season this year. The third preseason game is traditionally a dress rehearsal where the teams gameplan, and the starters play into the second half. Since the teams will play a real game in 2019, they will not meet in that third preseason game.

It seems a bit odd since these teams have always met the third week of the preseason in the past in years where they met in the regular season. The only other times in recent memory when the preseason game was a different week (2010 and 2012) were years where there was no regular season game between the clubs. It doesn’t really matter, though.

The Giants will be the first opponent. The Jets will then travel to Atlanta the second week of the preseason for a game with the Falcons. The preseason will then conclude with a pair of home games against the Saints and the Eagles.
