Jets offseason program has begun

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Monday was the first day of the offseason program for the Jets in 2019.

We might get some quotes from some of the people involved with the team, but the start of the offseason program isn’t very exciting. The first phase of the program last two weeks and is limited to strength and conditioning work. Injured players can also rehab their ailments.

Attendance is voluntary, although some players like Kelechi Osemele have bonuses in their contract tied to attending the offseason program. So for some guys it pays to attend these voluntary workouts.

The Jets are allowed to start their offseason program earlier than most of the league because they have a new coach. Teams with first year coaches are allowed to conduct a bonus minicamp. The Jets actually could have started their offseason program last Monday, but they would have had to take a week off at some point had they chosen to do so. Instead they opted to begin today.
