ESPN analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay posted a “dueling” mock draft. There isn’t much in conflict about their picks for the Jets, though.
3. New York Jets
Kiper: Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky
Even after splashing cash in free agency, the Jets have a hole at edge rusher. Allen would help immediately.
McShay: Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky
Watch for the Jets to trade back with a team in search of a quarterback. That’s what I’d do here, if possible. If they don’t, it’s a tougher call, but Allen fits this defense.
Both analysts had Kyler Murray going to the Cardinals first overall and Nick Bosa to the 49ers with the number two pick.
As McShay noted, trading down could be a possibility, but there were no trades in these mocks. If there is no trade down, the pick is essentially whether to go with Allen or Quinnen Williams. It isn’t necessarily an easy decision, but I think Allen’s role as an edge rusher could be a tiebreaker.
