Welcome, weary traveler, to the 210th edition of the Thread about Nothing. Let me tell you about something that is a bit more than nothing, my latest obsession.
I have shied away from podcasts as a rule. I am a bit compulsive with the media I consume, and when podcasts caught on as a thing I consciously decided to avoid them entirely. There are already enough distractions out there with internet, tv, books and movies, I did not need another. The last time I consumed anything similar to a podcast was listening to the entire series of George Burns and Gracie Allen's radio show in my mid-20s. This boycott lasted until a couple months ago.
I don't know where I've been for the last few years, but I recently 'discovered' Katie Nolan on the internets. For those who don't know, Nolan is an Emmy award winning sports media personality and television host who has had a show on Fox Sports, did work for NFL films, is currently hosting a show on ESPN's streaming service ESPN+, and is a podcasting veteran. Nolan's wheelhouse is the intersection of sports and comedy. Since finding her a few months ago through a segment she did with a comedian I like, I've consumed all of the content of hers I could find. It is an amount of content that I probably should not admit to. (Conservative estimate, a hundred hours of stuff?) She has a brilliant comedy mind and the kind of passion for sports that we all share. Though she roots for the wrong, bad, no good team (you know the one), I have taken a serious liking to her. I've already been to a taping of her show. She tapes close to where I used to work, down by the South Street Seaport.
The video I've posted is a segment from her most recent show, selected just because trying to pick one thing was gonna turn into an obsessive act on its own. I'll leave y'all to your own wormholes if you care to go down them. The show is called Always Late with Katie Nolan. Her current podcast is called 'Sports? With Katie Nolan' and can be found on multiple podcast sites including espn's podcast site and stitcher. I strongly recommend both the show and the pod. Video after the rules.
