Believe it or not, today is actually the official start of free agency. The new league year officially begins today at 4:00 p.m. New York time. Players can begin officially signing contracts with new teams.
For all intents and purposes, free agency began Monday when teams were allowed to start talking with players. Many of the top players in free agency are now committed to new teams.
The Jets have added many of them. Shortly after midnight, news broke that star running back Le’Veon Bell has chosen to sign with the Jets on a four year deal. The Jets also added C.J. Mosley yesterday and re-signed Henry Anderson.
That part about players not being able to officially sign contracts until today did matter since Anthony Barr decided to back away from his previous commitment to the Jets.
We continue today. The Jets still have numerous needs to address in the dwindling free agent pool.
