In a stunning development, it appears free agent linebacker Anthony Barr will not be playing for the New York Jets in 2019. Multiple reports now say Barr is expected to re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings, reneging on his oral commitment with the Jets.
Instances where players back out of oral commitments in the legal tampering period are rare, but this is why stories say things like so and so is expected to sign.
For the Jets this is a big blow to their off season plans. Barr is a premium player the Jets appeared to be smitten with. With Barr now apparently staying in Minnesota, the Jets have now not addressed three of their biggest needs at edge rusher, cornerback and center in free agency. With many of the better pass rushing options already off the board, premium options for the Jets outside of the still available Justin Houston and Ezekiel Ansah are becoming scarce.
