Buster Skrine to sign with the Bears

NFL: Green Bay Packers at New York Jets Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets are down a slot corner. Buster Skrine’s four year tenure with the team is over. The veteran is taking his talents to Chicago to sign with the Bears.

Skrine was the first major free agent import of the Mike Maccagnan Era in 2015. The Jets actually agreed to terms with him a few hours before signing a megadeal with cornerback Darrelle Revis.

It is pretty amazing that Skrine made it through his full four year contract with the Jets without being cut. The team had multiple chances to save cap space by releasing the corner, but he kept sticking around.

Despite completing the deal, I don’t think many people would describe the signing as a success. The first half season of his Jets career was good. There was an impact game every now and then after that point, but Skrine’s tenure with the Jets mainly consisted of getting burned and flagged.

Perhaps the best thing about the Skrine tenure with the Jets is that it is over.
