Spencer Long signs with the Buffalo Bills

NFL: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Former Jets center/guard Spencer Long has signed with the division rival Buffalo Bills.

Long was the Jets’ big money offensive addition last year. Brought in to stabilize the center position, Long did anything but. Although Spencer battled injuries, he was ineffective both snapping the football and blocking. He moved to guard late in the season, but bringing him back did not seem like a viable option. His contract allowed the Jets to escape after the first year with no dead money, and Long’s play did not merit a second season in New York.

There were a few rumblings that the Jets were going to look to bring Long back at a cheaper rate for depth, but that option is now off the table. Instead the Jets will face their former center twice a year. Unless his play shows a drastic improvement, it is difficult to see him providing any stability to Buffalo’s line.
